Genevieve has dated quite a bit since leaving Beauxbatons. In her late teens, she also wondered if she might be bisexual as she had always found women very attractive. After some experimenting, she realized that while she appreciated the aesthetics of women, it wasn't actually a serious attraction. She's even had several long-term relationships, most of which ended amicably enough. Her last one, however, was with Cooper Vipond. They dated for two and a half years, and when he proposed publicly in December 2008, she said no. Their breakup was a huge messy affair splashed all over the tabloids. With so many people she knows either with young children or expecting, she does have a little bit of baby fever.
"Applewood wands are not made in great numbers. They are powerful and best suited to an owner of high aims and ideals, as this wood mixes poorly with Dark magic. It is said that the possessor of an apple wand will be well-loved and long-lived, and I have often noticed that customers of great personal charm find their perfect match in an applewood wand. An unusual ability to converse with other magical beings in their native tongues is often found among apple wand owners, who include the celebrated author of Merpeople: A Comprehensive Guide to Their Language and Customs, Dylan Marwood.
Phoenix is the rarest core type. Phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn or dragon cores to reveal this. They show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike.
Phoenix feather wands are always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most independent and detached in the world. These wands are the hardest to tame and to personalise, and their allegiance is usually hard won."
appearance & personality
Genevieve is a tall, slim woman with long limbs and sea foam green eyes. She is often asked if she is a model or dancer due to her height and straight, narrow form, but she always laughs it off and blesses good genetics. Lately, her hair has been just past her shoulders, straight and blonde, but she is notorious for always doing something different with her hair, so much that some people wonder if she even knows what her natural hair is like. She does have several small, easily hidden tattoos that she started getting to irritate her father but continued to get because she really enjoys them.
Despite her family's noble line, Genevieve is something of a wild child, always having seemed to fight against the prim and proper mold they tried to put her in. As the oldest, she has a ‘take the world by storm’ attitude. She has always been unerringly fearless and up for almost any challenge. She absolutely loves magic and feels she fits in better in the wizarding world than she ever did in the Muggle world.
The lack of tragedy in her life coupled with the opulent and prestigious upbringing she was blessed with has left her with an optimistic, if slightly entitled, attitude. She tends to keep a wide circle of friends, not shy in the least or afraid of opening up to others. She has found that, especially as a professional Quidditch player, the best way to deal with the media scrutiny is to simply be an open book. Without many demons to hide or skeletons in her closet, that strategy has worked out fairly well for her so far.
While not a terribly private person, there are some things that she has kept close to her chest. The fact that she was briefly pregnant is one of those things. Not having dealt with tragedy much in her life, the devastation that came from not being pregnant was something she'd felt ill-equipped to cope with. And so, she didn't respond in her natural way, instead pushing it away as if it didn't matter. The only person she told was her Mum, and that was only after she and Coop broke up in December 2008.
When it comes to love and intimacy, Gen is a passionate person. She's not shy about getting into bed with someone she is attracted to, but she's also very much open to serious, monogamous relationships. She loves love and wants a fairy tale ending for herself. With that goal in mind, she's looking for someone she can share her life with, grow old with, have children with, and still be madly in love with to the end of her days. Her heart knows that she's already found him, but with everything that happened between her and Coop, her mind convinced her to keep looking. She's working on quieting her mind so she can listen to her heart, though.
Genevieve's father is the Duke of Blacas in Provence, and when he was in his mid-twenties, he broke tradition and married an English woman who he met while she was on holiday in the area. He was smitten with her right away, though it took some effort on his part to win her over. Although she went back home, he kept in contact with her, carrying on a long-distance courtship and doing what he could to learn everything he could about her. When she finished University, the Duke flew to England to surprise her at her Graduation ceremony. He proposed to her, and though they'd spent very little time physically together, she felt like she knew him so well that she was confident in saying yes.
When she ended up pregnant just a few months shy of their first wedding anniversary, everyone expected a boy, as it had been in the de Blacas d'Aulps family for generations. It was to everyone's surprise that she gave birth to a healthy baby girl. Three more girls would follow Genevieve over the next eight years.
Genevieve was a rather precocious child, always into things and never showing an ounce of fear. Her parents first suspected something was different about her when she was three years old and in a snit because the garden wasn't blooming despite it being mid-January. Suddenly, the rosebush closest to the toddler went into full bloom. There were other strange occurrences throughout her childhood, enough that when a representative arrived with a letter inviting her to join Beauxbatons to learn magic, her family wasn't anywhere near as surprised as they might have been.
Her first few years at the school were fairly normal for any Muggleborn student. Despite being a Muggleborn and therefore new to magic, she wasn't shy or hesitant about it, instead rising to the challenge of learning a different culture as well as magic. Her outgoing and confident personality made it easy for her to make friends, and there were few people who didn't seem to get along with her. She enjoyed all of her classes, but she seemed to have a natural aptitude for Potions and Herbology. When the time came for them to start flying lessons, she was fascinated and found herself determined to master the art. The first time she mounted a broom and lifted into the air, she knew she was in love. When she was a third year, Gen finally earned a spot on one of the school's Quidditch teams as a Chaser. Despite making sure not to neglect her studies too much, over the ensuing years, Gen practiced her heart out to become the best possible Chaser she could be.
During her fourth year she received word from home that her mother was expecting again, this time it was the much-anticipated boy that she and her sisters had been expected to be. Her baby brother arrived while she was home for the summer holiday, and she was excited to be able to be home for it, as she did love her family dearly. She was excited to get back to school, though, and when, in her sixth year, the Triwizard Tournament was announced to only include those of age, she wasn't even disappointed, as she knew it would give her even more opportunity to hone her skills. She'd become obsessed with the sport and knew she wanted to play professionally once out of school.
When Genevieve returned to school for her seventh and final year, she was awarded the position of Captain for her Quidditch team, and she led her team to victory in each game they played, being the first to have an undefeated season in the school in nearly thirty years. Aside from her success in Quidditch, Gen also received notice from a few Masters of Potions and Herbology, and was offered three different apprenticeships. Though her parents didn't understand the ins and outs of the magical world, they encouraged her to take one of the apprenticeships, believing they would be safer than playing a sport that would have her flying unprotected on just a broomstick.
Gen's heart wasn't in the apprenticeship route, however, and she decided to try out for the Quiberon Quafflepunchers. She made the team as a back-up Chaser, but didn't let that slow her down. During practice, she did what she could to be noticed in the most positive of ways, and the few opportunities she got to play in regulation games, she showed off not only her talent, but her ability to be a team player. It didn't take long for those in charge to take note, but the current Chasers were all on contract. It wasn't until her third season with them that one of the Chasers was injured and decided it was time to retire (though she suspected his wife had talked him into it, not wanting to be left alone with a young child and another on the way). She was offered his position, which she happily accepted.
Over the years, several European and British teams have tried to negotiate her away from the Quafflepunchers, but she loved her team and saw no reason to go. All seemed grand until they brought on a new Keeper, traded from the Patonga Proudsticks in Uganda. He was an arrogant, insufferable frustration, but he was bloody talented as well. She stuck it out for two seasons until inner-team relations got so tense that it affected their performance. When her concerns fell on deaf ears with the higher ups, she finally decided to take up an offer from the Montrose Magpies, transferring in 2007 and never looking back.
It didn't hurt her decision at all that this transfer came once she and Coop had been dating long distance for a year. She knew she was in love with him, and she was ready to make things more serious between them. Before she had a chance to surprise him with the news that they would get to play on the same team, however, Coop suffered a career ending head injury. Gen still made the team transfer and moved in with Coop, a decision she has never regretted. Transitioning to life in England was nowhere near as difficult as it could have been. With her English mother, her upbringing had incorporated a healthy mix of French and English customs, and she'd learned both languages simultaneously as a child. In some ways, it wasn't all that different than life in France.
Things were challenging at first with their dynamics so drastically shifted all at once, but Gen and Coop were madly in love, and they adjusted. Eventually, Coop started working as a Beater's coach, which helped things tremendously. However, it wasn't long before his jealousy started causing problems in their relationship. By the time Gen found out she was pregnant in September 2008, she had already started getting doubts about the future of their relationship, if only because she worried his jealousy would get him in a fight that would get him killed. And then, with the pregnancy, it hit her hard that if he couldn't get a handle on his issues, she could end up a widow with young children easily, and that thought terrified her. The pregnancy before it really had a chance to take hold, though, and though it devastated her, Gen pushed her own feelings away to try to help Coop through his own grief. It's something she still has yet to allow herself to properly grieve.
With all her repressed emotions and fears of the future combined with Coop's refusal to see the problems in their relationship and brushing off her requests for him to get professional help, when he proposed in December of 2008, she felt she had no choice but to say no. They had a fierce row afterward, and she moved out, returning home to Provence for the holiday break and only coming back once she had to. She hired a realtor, found her cottage, which she fell in love with, and spent the next few months focused primarily on training, spending extra time in practice, working on newer, riskier moves and pushing her body to its limits so that all she could do was crash afterward. It kept her from thinking too much about how broken her heart was and how much she missed Coop.
But Coop seemed to have let her go, and she was too stubborn to go back to him, so eventually she decided she had to move on. She started having casual sex again in late March, but didn't feel ready to start dating seriously again until May. It was after she started a flirtation with Oliver Wood that Coop finally reached out to her again. After a roller coaster ride of flirtations and arguments and a very brief relationship with Oliver, she's found herself single and in talks with Coop again. She's admitted to still being in love with him, but still has the same fears as before and wants to try therapy for herself to process the things she has yet to deal with before she gives dating a go again.
